RAVELRIG HOUSE
Balerno, Edinburgh
Six Townhouses and five Cottages in an idyllic countryside location |
 |
DEVELOPMENT STATUS: Sold Out |
 |
THE PROJECT
The project involves the conversion and restoration of
Ravelrig House, together with it's Stables and Cottages
to form 11 houses, all within the grounds of the historic
Ravelrig Estate.
O Ravelrig o prospect sweet,
Wi mansion house and gardens gay,
Your structure fair an' rooms sae neat
Your owner's noble taste display
'Currie Parish' in William Taylor's 'Scots Poems'
The Estate now extends to some 20 acres, accessed
through the Listed gateway on Lanark Road West. Mature
woodland covers the majority of the site, the southern edge
of which slopes gently down towards The Water of Leith.
Contained within the site is Ravelrig House, to be restored
and converted to form six Houses, and the 'B' Listed Stables
and Cottages, also to be restored and converted to form
five Houses.
Whilst parts of the main house date from the 16th Century
it was considerably extended in the 17th Century by the
Maitland family. The property was altered and extended
over the years and will now accommodate six townhouses,
most of which have four bedrooms.
The Stables dates from the early 19th Century and, together
with the Cottages, are located around an attractive Courtyard.
As well as the beautiful woodland, the purchasers will
benefit from access to the shared common ground within
the Paddock and the 'A' Listed Dovecot.
This is a rare opportunity and there is already a considerable
interest in the project.
